Dear Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to re-introduce myself.  My name is Ms. Williams, I am the College and Career Counselor for The Urban Assembly School for Emergency Management (UASEM).  I am so excited to be a part of such a wonderful school community.  This year is particularly special. We have become one of the few schools within New York City Public Schools to hold the covenant title of a P-TECH school. (P-Tech information). Initially I will be working primarily with the class of 2024 and 2025, ultimately servicing students from all grades.

At The Urban Assembly School for Emergency Management, we understand the importance of preparing our students for their future endeavors, and my role here is to provide comprehensive support to ensure they have the tools and guidance they need to succeed. I have an undeniable passion for School Counseling. What I admire most about High School students is their ability to learn more about themselves. I have been an educator for over fifteen years. As a fellow New Yorker and product of the New York City public education system, I can identify with and understand the challenges our kids face within their communities. I will be working as the college and career counselor, helping our students navigate through their own self-discovery related to academics, financial aid awareness and career explorations. Here is list of things we will be working on this year:

  • Individualized College and Career Counseling: I am committed to working closely with each student to create personalized college and career plans. Through one-on-one meetings, we will identify their interests, strengths, and aspirations to help them make informed decisions about their future.
  • College Trips and Tours: Exploring potential colleges and universities is a crucial part of the college application process. I will organize college trips and tours to expose students to various institutions, helping them get a firsthand look at campus life and academic programs.
  • Scholarship and Financial Aid Assistance: I will assist students in researching and applying for scholarships, grants, and financial aid opportunities. We will work together to alleviate the financial burden of higher education.
  • College Application Guidance: The college application process can be overwhelming, but I will guide students through every step, from selecting suitable colleges to completing applications and essays.
  • Career Exploration: It's important for students to have a clear understanding of various career paths. I will help them explore different career options, internships, and job-shadowing opportunities.
  • Parent and Family Engagement: I believe that parents and guardians play a crucial role in a student's journey. I will host workshops and information sessions to keep families informed and engaged in the college and career planning process.

I am committed to supporting your students in their pursuit of higher education and fulfilling careers. My office door is always open, and I encourage both students and families to reach out whenever they have questions or need guidance.

I look forward to getting to know each of your students and working together to help them achieve their dreams. Please feel free to contact me to schedule a meeting or ask any questions you may have.

Let's embark on this exciting journey together, preparing our students for a bright and successful future.
